Fire Sparks in Tyler, Texas Engraving Shop

Tragedy struck Jones Engraving on Thursday, October 18th

As reported by Sue Necessary on EastTexasMatters.com, emergency crews responded to a two-alarm commercial building fire at Jones Engraving, located at 116 S. Beckham, Tyler, Texas on Thursday, October 18th.

Necessary writes: according to Deputy Fire Marshall Randy Lee, the fire started when a bandsaw sparked and ignited magnesium shavings. Magnesium “reacts violently to water” and has to burn itself out, Lee said.

Small explosions and “eruptions” have been reported at the scene.

The fire was considered controlled as of later that day. The magnesium is still intact and there is no toxic smoke, Lee told Necessary. Two ladder trucks, five engines, two district chiefs, and an investigator were on scene.

A&E will continue to work to get more details on this story as we receive more information.
