The Advantage of Digital Transfers

Digitally printed transfers increase the efficiencies of the heat transfer method

Digitally printed heat transfers for apparel have seen unprecedented advances and popularity during recent years. With their extensive capabilities to produce fast-tracked, customized embellishments, high productivity, and relatively low cost, the digital heat transfer can offer the garment decorator an advantage. For example, transfers can increase custom apparel printing techniques and extend high-value opportunities to grow business.

Digitally printed transfers increase the efficiencies of the heat transfer method, application, and appeal.

Color and print consistency

The digital printing machine uses a four-color process print using cyan, magenta, yellow, and black to transfer images onto a specialized paper or film. The colors obtained virtually span the entire visual spectrum, which can print a wide color gamut, reaching up to 97% of Pantone colors on press.

The digital printing process is quick, repeatable, and efficient. The digital printer delivers crisp linework and smooth vignettes with a thin deposit of ink that provides uniform color between ink and transfer substrate. Any graphic image, including customized artwork, full-color photorealistic images, and multiple color options, can be printed up to 1,200 DPI with 266 lines per inch capability. This results in the digital heat transfer producing the highest possible image resolution and maintains optimum color vibrancy and depth.

Digital heat transfer advantages

There are no upfront setup charges with digital heat transfers, which eliminates the need for screens, plates, squeegees, and color matching. The transfer graphic images are sent electronically to the digital machine, where substrate sheet size, image dimension, and quantity are quickly collated in readiness for immediate on-press delivery.

Because of the speed of setup and the fast and efficient creation from start to finish, the digital printer can produce identical images with large- and small-volume print runs. Transfers can easily be accommodated without loss of print output, which is an advantage against traditional transfer print methods.

In many ways, the surge in high-performance, active lifestyle apparel and the increase in high-performance synthetic fabrics is made for digital transfer application, as both complement the high-performance criteria.

With the emphasis on environmental and sustainable practices, there are digital heat transfers available that comply with RSL (Restricted Substances List) legislation. RSL legislation ensures that products comply with the strictest testing methods, managed and controlled in compliance with internationally recognized health and safety standards. Digital transfers are phthalate-free and meet the RSL legislation.
