Video of the Week: From Graffiti Artist to Sign Painter

This week’s video of the week comes to us from a media outlet called BESE, which focuses on telling the stories of people of color and on subject matters that don’t get wide attention in the mainstream media. One of its regular features is “BESE Meets,” and in this case we meet Javier Matias of Mid City Signs in Los Angeles. Always a fan of creating art-in the form of graffiti-Matias stumbled into a classroom at the Los Angeles Trade Technical College where the art of sign making was being taught by legendary sign maker Ralph “Doc” Guthrie. The rest, as they say, is history.
