Selecting the right accounting software and the right accountant are two of the most important decisions of a small business. Knowing if we made the right selection of an accountant is often a decision that we don’t know if we have made the right decision until after it is too late. But before we go in search of the software and the accountant, we need to make a list of those things we must have in each. We need to have an idea of what we want before we start searching for both the accountant and the software; otherwise, it will be more difficult to identify what we are looking at.
When it comes to an accountant, we must have someone who will not only file the proper papers but also must be someone who will learn our business so they can advise us of how to conduct our accounting system. We, as small business people, need to realize that we deal with people. For that reason, it is imperative to each of you that you look for people who think and act as you do. I didn’t say it would be easy but working with those you don’t relate to is difficult, and it will make it difficult for you to grow and accomplish your full potential.
