Highpoint Signs has announced the acquisition of Wakefield Sign Service, a commercial signage company with a 40-year legacy. The acquisition also includes the company’s YESCO Central Texas franchise operation, strengthening Highpoint’s fabrication, installation, maintenance, repair, and multi-location signage capabilities across Texas and beyond.

Wakefield’s story began in 1986, when Texas A&M Class of ’81 graduates Grant Barnby and Anne Barnby founded Signs Now!, a two-person business focused on banners and vinyl lettering. In 1995, the Barnbys acquired Bryan-based Wakefield Sign Service, adding large-scale electrical sign fabrication, installation, and repair to their growing business. Over time, the company operated under Sign Source, Inc. and expanded further in 2013 with YESCO Central Texas, building a service footprint across Houston, Austin, San Antonio, and the Waco–Temple–Killeen corridor.

Throughout that evolution, Wakefield became known for its skilled team, personalized service, and ability to deliver complete commercial signage solutions — from custom fabrication and electrical signs to installation, maintenance, repairs, and replacement projects. The company’s legacy was built not only on quality work, but also on lasting customer relationships, good jobs for employees, and support for local organizations throughout Aggieland.

“Forty years of work doesn’t happen by accident,” said George Jacobus, owner of Highpoint Signs & Apparel. “It takes character, persistence, and a lot of people who care. Grant and Anne have trusted us with something they spent their lives building, and we intend to be good stewards of it.”

The acquisition is said to bring together Highpoint’s full-service branding and signage platform with Wakefield’s established electrical-sign manufacturing, installation, and field-service capabilities. Wakefield’s team, equipment, fabrication expertise, and YESCO Central Texas service operation will expand Highpoint’s ability to serve businesses throughout Central Texas.

“For Wakefield and YESCO Central Texas customers, the message is simple: the people you know and trust are still here, and they’ll be backed by more resources than ever,” Jacobus said. “Our job is to make this transition invisible to you, except for the ways we can serve you better.”

With the addition of Wakefield, Highpoint will enhance its capacity for custom sign fabrication, electrical service and repair, permitting, installation, and ongoing maintenance. The YESCO Central Texas operation also expands Highpoint’s service reach across key Texas markets and provides additional ability to support customers outside Texas through the YESCO installation and national-service network.

“Bringing Wakefield and YESCO Central Texas into the Highpoint family gives us the capabilities and reach to serve customers anywhere in Central Texas, from a single storefront sign to a multi-site rollout,” Jacobus said. “We’re building a company that can grow with our clients, and this is a major step in that direction.”

Grant Barnby and Anne Barnby expressed their appreciation for the employees, customers, partners, and community members who contributed to the company’s success over the past four decades.

“Starting with just two employees, we could not have imagined the relationships, opportunities, and growth that would follow,” the Barnbys said. “We are incredibly grateful to our employees, clients, industry partners, and the Brazos Valley community for their trust and support over the last 40 years. We are confident that Highpoint will honor the legacy of Wakefield while helping it continue to grow and serve customers well.”

The Barnbys said that they look forward to retirement and spending more time with family, church, and friends.
