Vycom Sister Company Opens Facility to Convert Plastic Waste to Products
Some of the plastic recycled at the facility will make its way to Vycom for use as sign media.
Scranton, Pennsylvania-based Vycom, makers of graphic and display materials, announces that AZEK Building Products-sister company of Vycom Corp., both divisions of The AZEK Co.-has opened a new 100,000-square-foot-plus recycling facility in Wilmington, Ohio.
According to Vycom, the green facility will be accepting post-consumer and post-industrial recycled polyethylene materials from recyclers, waste management companies and municipalities, and will be reprocessing that into multiple product lines, including Vycom sheet products and TimberTech deck boards.
According to AZEK Building Products, more than 55 million pounds of plastic is expected to be recycled this summer alone, and the goal is to recycle up to 200 million pounds of waste material by 2020.
The plant contains what the company says is a high efficiency, continuous manufacturing line-featuring advanced technologies from Europe-that turns recycled products into raw material that can be molded into a composite. Throughout the manufacturing process, unique sampling locations are positioned to ensure quality requirements, with technicians using state-of-the-art analytics to ensure all material standards are maintained.
Additionally, the plant itself uses energy efficient systems for power, water, heating/cooling and lighting.
