Video of the Week: Gold Leafing the Aussie Way

Nick Marandola has been in the sign business since 1987 and has upgraded his skills to keep up with the times, although he maintains his old-school talents.

This week’s video comes to us from Melbourne, Australia, where sign maker Nick Marandola plies his trade as the owner of Essential Signs. According to his website, Nick finished his apprenticeship in sign painting in 1987 and started out his career working for other, larger companies. In 1989 he launched his own company, Brush Art Signs, but seeing the rapid evolution of the industry at that time he knew he had to acquire more knowledge, so he went back to school and trained in graphic design. His newly acquired skills meant his shop would offer much more than a brush and a can of One Shot, so he changed his company’s name to Essential Signs. Today, his shop offers all types of signage, including digital and vehicle wraps. Here though, Nick returns to his roots and does some gold leafing on an honor board for a local rowing team. Good on ya’ mate!
