Using Your Laser to Engrave Glass

Traditionally, glass is embellished using a process called sandblasting or sandcarving. So why laser engrave glass, then? The simple reason is that it is a time saver. When laser engraving, you can bypass preparing masks, taping off the mask, and then cleaning off the masks. In addition, you do not have to worry about the center of an “A” blowing off during the sandblasting stage. That being said, I think a lot of people prefer the look of sandcarved graphics to laser engraved graphics. But is your client willing to pay extra for the elegance of sandcarving? 

If they are not, then laser engraving glass may be right for you. Once you have created your graphics on the computer, simply prepare the laser to hold your glass piece. After that, it is a matter of laser marking the glass, and violá, you are done.
