The Karibu, swissQprint’s Latest Model, Certified as Energy Efficient
The Fogra Institute for Media Technologies is an independent testing lab based in Germany.
Switzerland-based large-format printer manufacturer swissQprint announces that the newest member of its printer family, the Karibu, which is the company’s first roll-to-roll printer, has been rated “highly energy efficient” by the Germany-based independent testing lab, the Fogra Institute for Media Technologies.
The Karibu underwent tests as specified by the ISO 20690:2018 standard. The company reports that according to Fogra, the Karibu scored even higher than swissQprint’s Nyala flatbed printer, which was also given the “outstanding energy efficiency” rating when it underwent testing last year.
The ISO 20690 standard specifies methods for determining the energy consumption of digital printers and thus allows comparison of their operating costs and ecological footprints.
Fogra says that in order to model realistic system usage, the standardized measurement tests the printers undergo includes four different printer statuses. To ensure that results are consistent, the experts use three different printing modes several times with a standardized print file.
The chairman of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Technical Committee 130-which deals with graphic technology-is a member of Fogra, and two of Fogra’s staff members lead work groups of that committee.
