In fact, the report says, the company claims nearly 34 percent-more than one-third-of market share globally. The report says the company shipped nearly 300,000 units in the second quarter. Its was driven by year-over-year sales increases of 216 percent in Latin America and 40½ percent in Canada.

Other manufacturers highlights from the report

Seoul, South Korea-based LG Electronics shipped more than 74,000 units in the second quarter, resulting in 8½ percent market share. Despite year-over-year unit increases of nearly 37 percent in Latin America and almost 6 percent in Asia/Pacific (excluding Japan), the vendor posted a year-over-year decline of 8.3 percent.

China-based Goodview moved into the number three position with year-over-year growth of 30½ percent on nearly 70,000 units shipped during the quarter. It posted strong annual growth rates in several screen sizes, including its 55-inch wide and 65-inch wide.

Chicago-based NEC Display Solutions dropped to the number four position with more than 64,000 units shipped. Despite witnessing a year-over-year decline of 5½ percent, the company had annual growth gains in both Japan-28.3 percent) and Central and Eastern Europe- (8.1%).

China-based Foxconn rounded out the Top 5 in the second quarter with 6 market share globally.

Overall, the global market saw shipments during the second quarter of more than 870,000 units, up nearly 16 percent year-over-year and up 10 percent from the first quarter. IDC says it expects the global market for digital signage will continue to grow at rates of 10 percent and 12 percent, year-over-year, in 2019 and 2020, respectively. The fastest-growing regions are Latin America and Asia/Pacific (excluding Japan).

The report also details what is happening size-wide with digital signage. 1920 x 1080 remains the most common screen resolution, but the resolution with the fastest year-over-year growth is 3840 x 2160. Shipments of that resolution grew nearly 400 percent in the second quarter, year-over-year.

“Considering it is the second-ranked screen resolution, this is a promising development for the signage market,” the report notes.

Of the top 10 screen sizes, 32-inches wide and 43-inches wide saw the fastest year-over-year growth.
