Orbus Recycles 90 Percent of Waste, Environmental Goals Surpassed
By its nature, Orbus is a company that generates a lot of waste, but it works hard to keep as much of it as possible out of the landfill.
Woodridge, Illinois-based trade show display and exhibit manufacturer Orbus Exhibit & Display Group announces that it has already surpassed its yearly environmental goals and increased its recycling to almost 90 percent for 2018.
The company says that as of the middle of this year-the newest numbers available-it had recycled 460,000 pounds of cardboard, cores and paper, as well as 135,000 pounds of plastic.
Orbus says finding a company to recycle its wood waste was key in helping it get down to only 10 percent of the materials it uses and discards being sent to landfills. Aside from its wood pallets and skids, it also recycles fabrics, paper, aluminum, plastics, batteries, electronics, and steel.
The company says it’s part of its culture. Recycling bins are placed in all common areas, at desks in offices and throughout its warehouse. Two full-time team members are dedicated to providing the labor needed for recycling, and the company has several employees dedicated to helping oversee its recycling program.
“Orbus prints over 26,000 sq. ft. of display graphics alone each day,” says Jim Concannon, operations manager. “That, coupled with other aspects of operations, (and) we produce a lot of recyclable items. One of Orbus’ core values is to protect and preserve the environment and I am thrilled that our efforts have diverted even more from landfills in 2018.”
