Nike Founder Phil Knight Donates Nearly $1B to Charity
Nike founder and chairman emeritus Phil Knight donates almost $1 billion to charity
BEAVERTON, Ore.-Nike founder and chairman emeritus Phil Knight donates almost $1 billion to charity. A recent news update by Bloomberg says Knight gave the sum, totaling $990 million, on Aug. 3 through 12 million shares of the company.
Despite the sizeable amount, the SEC filing for the donation does not specify the charitable organization. The filing does, however, note that both Knight and his wife Penelope Knight are directors of the organization. The news marks a continued trend by the Knights of large-size charitable contributions. In March 2017, the University of Oregon announced the couple had donated $500 million to build a new science complex at the institution.
