INX Completes Research and Development Center Expansion
The company says it nearly doubled the space at its R&D facility, to nearly 70,000 square feet.
Schaumburg, Illinois-based ink manufacturer INX International announces the completion of the redevelopment of its research and development complex in West Chicago, Illinois, about 16 miles from company headquarters.
The expansion nearly doubled the amount of space at its R&D center, which opened in 1996. It now contains nearly 70,000 square feet and employs about 80, with approximately 20 additional chemists and support staff added. Additional lab space was part of the expansion, leading to the hiring of the additional chemists.
“The expansion effort focused on growing specific markets such as energy-curable inks and coatings and inkjet ink technologies of all types,” says Mark Hill, a vice president and research and development director. “Overall, this is a win-win situation that benefits all ink users.”
Digital inks is one of the growing market segments that needed to be addressed with the expansion, he says.
“With increasing demand for our products, we added 5,000 square feet to our digital print applications lab,” Hill says. “It now houses several types of inkjet printers, printhead makers and delivery systems for more complete ink testing capabilities. We also devoted more space to our EHS/Regulatory department and equipment capabilities in our analytics department. The additional staff gives us the opportunity to better serve our customers regarding ever-increasing regulatory issues and other critical concerns, such as migration and troubleshooting issues.”
