Investing in a Larger Sandcarving Cabinet
The solution for large parts may be a larger sandcarving cabinet.
Sandcarving outside the cabinet, or with the cabinet door open, is dangerous and in violation of almost all rules and regulations concerning dry abrasive blasting. The solution for large parts may be a larger sandcarving cabinet. These are essentially the same as the mid-range and top-of-the-line sandcarvers but with a larger inside cabinet size. They rely on the same micro-abrasive flow controls using a standard 3/32″ sandcarving nozzle. A large industrial blasting machine is not a solution for sandcarving a large part in our industry. Because the machine was built to flow abrasive in much larger volumes, the machine has poor abrasive flow performance using a standard sandcarving nozzle.
A good rule of thumb when considering the purchase of one machine is to buy a unit that does 90 percent of your anticipated business for the next three to five years. You can add a second sandcarving machine later to cover the missing 10 percent.
