WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.-Hanes and its employees earn the 2019 Forsyth County Governor’s Volunteer Award for contributions to its hometown community. The company receives the award in the corporate category.

Hanes employees volunteer time at Samaritan Ministries, a volunteer-based organization that operates a soup kitchen, shelter, and other programs to support those living homeless and/or hungry in Forsyth County. During their 2018 stint, Hanes employees volunteered more than 350 hours at the organization working in the soup kitchen and distributing basics like socks and underwear to more than 500 people.

“Hanes’ volunteers make an invaluable contribution to Samaritan Ministries,” Sonjia Kurosky, the agency’s executive director, says. “Whether serving on our board of directors or scrubbing pots and pans in our soup kitchen, the company’s volunteers are eager to help and have never hesitated to ask if there was more they could do. And we are very grateful for their enthusiastic partnership and strong dedication to serving our guests.”

“It is such an honor for our company and employees to win the 2019 Forsyth County Governor’s Volunteer Award,” Chris Fox, HanesBrands’ vice president of corporate social responsibility, says. “We are very proud to support Samaritan Ministries’ mission to provide food, shelter, and hope to those who need it most in our community.”

The Forsyth County Governor’s Volunteer Service Awards recognizes and honors volunteers who have made significant contributions to the local community through volunteer service. Created by the Office of the Governor in 1979, the award aims to honor the true spirit of volunteerism. The service awards take place annually in each of South Carolina’s 100 counties.
