Gildan Grows Yarn-Spinning Operation in North Carolina

The North Carolina Department of Commerce announces that Gildan plans to grow its yard-spinning operations in Rockingham County.

RALEIGH, N.C.-The North Carolina Department of Commerce announces that Gildan plans to grow its yard-spinning operations in Rockingham County. Governor Roy Cooper unveiled the agreement on Oct. 16.

According to a press release by the department, Gildan will invest roughly $5 million to “revamp and operate” a new yarn-spinning mill located in Eden, North Carolina. The state expects the plant will add 85 jobs to the area.

“Eden and Gildan Yarns have been great economic partners, and it makes sense with their existing presence and the strong workforce that they would expand,” comments Cooper.

Chuck Ward, president of Gildan Yarns, points out that the Eden facility marks the seventh location in the U.S. for the company’s domestic yarn-spinning.

“We are very pleased to expand our operations in the Eden community and to invest in a new yarn-spinning facility,” says Ward.

The commerce department says to help facilitate the opening, the One North Carolina Fund (One NC) is providing a performance-based grant of $250,000. The One NC Fund provides assistance to local governments in the state to help attract economic investment and to create jobs. To receive the grant, companies receive no money upfront and must fulfill both job creation goals and capital investment targets.

“Gildan Yarns’ decision further solidifies our leadership in the textile industry,” says North Carolina Commerce Secretary Anthony M. Copeland. “North Carolina has more textile manufacturers than any other state and a world-class pipeline of textile talent to continue Gildan’s global operations.”
