Featured Project: Taking Us Out to the Ballgame

The Sign Store's founder, Dan Padilla, taught himself calligraphy at age 17. That has led to a lifetime of making signs and his company today does much more than that.

This featured project comes to us from The Sign Store in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The shop was founded by owner Al Padilla in 1996, but he’s been doing signage a lot longer than that.

A part-time job when he was a junior in high school led to him having access to tools that you wouldn’t find working at a burger joint, and he took advantage, teaching himself calligraphy at 17. That led to a career in doing signs which ultimately resulted in him opening his own business. The Sign Store’s staff of fewer than 10 stays busy making all types of signs, banners, vehicle wraps and the like.

The company’s been doing signage for the Albuquerque Isotopes, the Triple-A affiliate of the Colorado Rockies, for the past 18 years. Another well-known client is the world-renowned Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta, which it has been working with at least that long.
