Ottawa, Canada-based software company Corel Corp. has been acquired by New York City-based KKR, a global investment firm.

KKR acquired Corel from San Francisco-based Vector Capital, a tech-focused private equity firm.

Terms of the sale were not disclosed.

“KKR recognizes the value of our people and their impressive achievements, especially in terms of our commitment to customers, technology innovation, and our highly successful acquisition strategy,” says Patrick Nichols, CEO of Corel. “With KKR’s support and shared vision, our management team is excited by the opportunities ahead for our company, products and users.”

Corel offers a variety of software products for illustration and design; photo editing and digital imaging; and video editing, among other uses. Its CorelDRAW products are widely used in the signage and graphics markets.
