Best Paper Award Bestowed on Three Omax R&D Engineers
Omax is celebrating 25 years in business this year.
Kent, Washington-based Omax, manufacturers of CNC waterjet cutters and software, announces that three of its engineers have received the “Best Paper Award” at the 24th International Conference on Water Jetting 2018, which took place in Manchester, England.
Dr. Axel Henning, the company’s director of R&D; along with Pete Miles and Ernst Schubert, both senior mechanical engineers at Omax, collectively wrote the paper titled, “Effects of Particle Fragmentation on Performance of the Abrasive Waterjet.”
That article has been published in The 24th International Conference on Water Jetting 2018 book published through BHR Group.
“The paper is a study in cutting performance from an abrasive particle size perspective,” says Miles. The study found “… the portion of larger particles decreases significantly with higher pressures and the amount of fines that have no significant impact in the cutting process increases substantially.”
The award-winning paper, the company says, showcases how, at higher pressures, abrasive breaks apart to a finer dust before exiting the nozzle, resulting in reduced cutting power.
This year’s conference was advertised as “a technical program that ensures water jetting technology continues to develop with a sound engineering basis.” The conference showcased the innovators in water jetting technology discussing everything from pure research to case study.
Says Dr. Henning of receiving the award, “We feel very honored because the Best Paper Award is selected by the most renowned people in the industry and in academia.”
