What is the importance of fume extraction for laser engraving?

Health, safety, and productivity are the cornerstones when discussing fume extraction. A safe work environment combined with healthy employees will certainly help the bottom line. In addition, a laser with an adequate exhaust system will minimize the time your laser operator has to clean the expensive optics. How extensive you decide to go with fume extraction really depends on your typical laser use. If you are simply laser engraving anodized aluminum, which omits minimal residue, odor, and particulates, then a simple blower motor may be adequate. But if you are laser engraving substrates such as wood and plastic, you will need to consider a more robust exhaust system.
