The rule of thumb with sandcarving is you can abrasive etch anything that can be scratched or is not brittle (in other words), like coated metals, acrylic, leather, blue jeans, etc. You can abrasive carve anything that can be cracked or is brittle (in other words), like stone, glass, crystal, ceramic, wood, etc. Each year we see new niche items that can be easily sandcarved, like powder-coated mugs for example.
