Brass, along with other metals, is sometimes coated with an epoxy coating or something similar to prevent corrosion. For laser marking metal, you do need a bare metal surface, so coated brass won’t work. We have seen people that laser off the coating and then mark it with Enduramark or a similar metal marking product. You can do that, but it generally requires more work-around.
