UNITED KINGDOM-Adrian Burton, the owner of the UK apparel and workwear company South East Workwear, brings 25 years of decorating experience to his latest endeavor One Shirt Away.
After helping college students for years, he decided to build a video course to help people understand all the principles of decorating from logo design to the practical skills and mistakes. The course also includes an invitation to a Facebook page and private Facebook group where students can get support from Burton and the One Shirt Away team.
“The concept for One Shirt Away came from a project I was doing for an online marketing course, and I had to pick a niche audience. As I already had a T-shirt printing business and started in my garage 25 years ago, I decided that this probably would be the best option. When I started looking into what other options were available for this, there really wasn’t much choice either, mainly YouTube, and some forums,” Burton states.
One Shirt Away features five learning modules, including, Inside Secrets, Master Class Training, Discovery, The Inner Circle, and Success. It currently consists of 50-plus videos with plans to reach 100 soon. The basic outline of the course begins by taking beginner decorators through CorelDRAW and the essential tools necessary to draw a logo. From there, it walks students through the process of producing their first shirt-hence the name, One Shirt Away. The course is also accompanied by helpful resources and guides, like hotkeys for help with design software.
Students can also expect to learn about vinyl cutting, laser transfer, print and cut systems, such as Roland and Mimaki, DTG, as well as Roland Cut Studio and Garment Creator.
The course costs £497 ($603). In addition to the class, One Shirt Away also has an eBook available for £37 ($45). The 60-page book details how to price work, as well as information on print processes and supply chains.
In the coming months, Burton also hopes to host a podcast that focuses on starting in the industry, finding niche markets, as well as design and print process troubleshooting.
