What is a good practice when laser marking an unknown substrate?

Whenever you are laser marking an unknown product or substrate, it is important that you exercise caution when determining your laser settings. Remember, once you have laser marked (correctly or incorrectly) there is no going back. A good practice is to start with a low power and gradually increase it to obtain the desired results.
