What is the benefit to having a router?

The biggest benefit of a router is adding versatility to a shop. It can increase production of smaller pieces, as well as allow users to offer larger items they were unable to previously produce. Due to the power of the spindle motor, most jobs can be completed faster than on an engraving machine.

While spindles on engraving machines have improved greatly over the decades, the high precision bearings in a router spindle can provide a better, more polished finish. Router spindles offer a wider range of RPMs. The collet spindle offers a larger range of tool sizes and styles. Some routers offer automated tool changers, so rough and finish passes can be completed with different tools without pausing production.
