Try This: Sublimate Poly Linen Oven Mitts
Follow the steps to sublimate this unique-shaped substrate.
A variety of poly linen products has recently been introduced including accessory bags, tote bags, aprons, placemats, and more. Made of sturdy 95 percent polyester/5 percent cotton, the linen products combine the rustic appeal of natural-colored linen with the full-color imaging capabilities of dye-sub transfer.
Using standard sublimation equipment, decorators can transfer vintage-inspired images onto the products to create a classic, relaxed look, or transfer dramatic, full-color images to produce a modern eclectic feel. While most of the items are easy to sublimate using a flat press, the new oven mitts require more attention due to their thickness and the quilted silver material on the backside.
Materials Needed:
- Digital template
- Printed transfer
- Blank oven mitt
- DyeTrans Pro Spray (or equivalent product)
- Teflon sheet
- Flat heat press
Steps:
- Download a digital product template and use it to create the uniquely shaped artwork. Step One.
- Print the transfer.
- Cover the bottom table of the press with a Teflon sheet. Step Three.
- Lint roll the mitt’s image area, place mitt face-up on the Teflon, cover with protective paper, and pre-press for 10 seconds. Step Four.
- Secure the transfer to the mitt using DyeTrans Pro Spray (do not use heat tape and do not wrap transfer around the mitt as it will ruin the silver surface). Step Five.
- Place the mitt face-up (attached transfer face-down) on the Teflon, cover with protective paper, and press for 50 seconds at 400 F with heavy pressure. Step Six.
- Carefully remove the mitt from the press and let cool.
