Before starting on a large project, we advocate following the manufacturer’s instructions for each paper and then testing each, so that you’ll get a feel for the differences between medium and high pressure. Also, it’s important to invest in the highest quality of heat press as possible to ensure pressure consistency.
Too much pressure with a laser paper results in a release of the coating with a ghost image – that’s not what you want to happen. When pressed with correct pressure, only the toner will transfer. This is the opposite of an inkjet paper that is not weedless. The coating is supposed to transfer.
Too little pressure on a laser heat-transfer paper results in an improper bond; the transferred design will not bond to the substrate. The same occurs with an inkjet paper.
