SGP Hosts Community Event Focused on Sustainability
The host company, Bolger LLC, has been studying how to make its printing practices more sustainable since the mid-1970s, its president says.
The Sayville, New York-based Sustainable Green Printing Partnership, a nonprofit organization that provides sustainability certification in the graphics communication industry, recently held a forum it called “Sustainability at Bolger: An SGP Community Event.”
The day-long event was Nov. 6 at print shop Bolger LLC in Minneapolis.
The SGP says the event was designed to explore “both the successes and challenges the printing industry faces as it continues its sustainability journey. The program brings together a variety of speakers to educate and spark conversation on current issues.”
The event’s host, Bolger, gave attendees a detailed look at its sustainability efforts and the return on investment they deliver. Other topics include:
- The current landscape of recycling, in both the local Minneapolis area as well as across the country. That was presented by Eureka Recycling.
- SGP Patron and Minnesota-based 3M’s study on the evolution of substrates
- US Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, the home of the NFL’s Minnesota Vikings, and its journey to earn the LEED Platinum rating
“Bolger began studying print’s impact on the environment in the mid 70’s,” says Dik Bolger, president of Bolger LLC. “We were early adopters of both recycled paper and agri-based inks. Today we continue that study. Bolger firmly believes sustainability is important to our customers, employees and the earth. We simply believe that it is good business with a strong ROI.”
