ShopBot to Host Two-Day CNC Workshop in Upper Northwest
Attendees to this two-day training session will be able to see how the students there use is to further their education.
Durham, North Carolina-based ShopBot Tools, makers of CNC routers and accessories, announces a two-day CNC training session, Friday and Saturday, Oct. 11-12, in Yakima, Washington.
The company says the event is open to businesses as well as schools and makerspaces. It’s being held at the West Valley Junior High in Yakima.
According to the company, the topics to be covered include:
- Designing in VCarve PRO CAD/CAM software
- How to import/export designs using other graphics or engineering-based softwares
- Exploring techniques for toolpathing strategies, bit selection and feeds/speeds, and material hold down.
The class is being held at the school because attendees will be able to see how students in West Valley’s pre-engineering and AMPED (Algebra 1 in Manufacturing Processes, Entrepreneurship and Design) classes us the machines. The skills they learn there are the starting point for STEM and manufacturing pathways that lead to apprenticeships while in high school, post-secondary educational opportunities and potential high-paying careers down the road.
Class size is limited; ShopBot Desktop/Max CNC machines and computers with the appropriate software are available for the use of the attendees. If you are bringing your own PC computer to the training, we ask that you download a demo version of the VCarve Pro CAD/CAM software (found here) in advance.
The classes will be held from 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m., with an optional extra two hours work time on Friday. The instructor for the course will be Sallye Coyle, a consultant for ShopBot that is also-using her ShopBot tools-a glass artist and a contractor for 100kGarages.
The cost of the two-day event is $350 and lunch is included.
