Giving Back: Vycom’s Parent Company Donates Bike Helmets
The AZEK Co., parent company of Vycom, has a one million-square-foot manufacturing facility near Scranton, and it owns a piece of the local minor league baseball team.
The Chicago-based AZEK Co., the parent company to Scranton, Pennsylvania-based Vycom, makers of graphic and display materials, recently donated bike helmets to be given away at a minor league baseball game near Vycom’s hometown.
The Azek Co. is a sponsor of the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders, which is the Triple-A affiliate of the New York Yankees. The RailRiders play at PNC Field in Moosic, Pennsylvania, just down the road from Scranton. The AZEK Co. says it wanted to give back to the community in a meaningful way that aligned with its commitment to safety. So, in honor of National Safety Awareness Month, it decided to hand out 120 bike helmets to fans attending the RailRiders game.
Along with Vycom, which makes products that target the signage and graphics industry, AZEK also has several other affiliate companies that manufacture low-maintenance residential and commercial building materials. The company has a one million-square-foot manufacturing facility in Scranton.
“Safety is always our number one priority and we wanted to celebrate National Safety Awareness Day with the RailRiders to teach kids about the importance of wearing helmets-just as their favorite players do during a game,” says Scott Van Winter, Scranton Products and Vycom President. “Safety and protection are part of our culture-from keeping our team safe to offering brands that protect the environment and home exteriors from the elements for decades.”
In addition to The AZEK Co.’s bike helmet give away, the Railriders will team up with the New York Yankees in June to participate in HOPE week, which benefits local charities. They will also hold the first Teddy Bear Toss, in which fans throw new stuffed animals onto the field, which will then be donated to the Geisinger Janet Weis Children’s Hospital and to the Ronald McDonald House of Scranton.
