Featured Project: The Opposite Effect of Camouflage
The custom camo pattern offered by Atlanta Custom Wraps has been in high demand, owner Justin Norton says.
This featured project comes to us from Atlanta Custom Wraps, where three of their shop cars are tricked out in a custom camo design that does anything but help their vehicles blend into the background.
According to owner Justin Norton, Atlanta Custom Wraps’ distinct custom camo designs came out of an inquiry it had from a Memphis wrapper named Young Dolph. Young Dolph had approached the shop because of its reputation as “every rappers favorite wrapper,” Norton says.
He says Young Dolph gave he and his team full creative freedom, with the only instructions being that he wanted some type of a camouflage pattern but one that was totally unique, and had an old-school feel to it.
With that in mind, Norton says, he went to work-first laying down 3M deep matte black as a base, and then overlaying the three other colors in patterns using Knifeless Tape. The ivory color was custom made and is exclusive to his shop, Norton says. He adds that came about because of necessity, because that particular shade wasn’t available in matte. Every piece is hand-laid over the black base.
He says when Young Dolph saw the car he loved it and promptly ordered 30 more for everyone on the record label he owns-PRE, or Paper Route Empire. So far his shop has already done about 40 cars, Norton says, and he has close to 40 more scheduled.
The unique style was such a hit that at SEMA recently, Atlanta Custom Wraps was named “Standout Shop of the Year” at WWWRAP, the World-Wide Wrap Recognition and Appreciation Party hosted annually by Paint is Dead and Masters of Branding (MoB).
