Featured Project: Standing Out in a Crowded Landscape

Superior Digital Displays is the management company that owns the signs, which were built by Dallas' Ultravision.

Dallas-based Ultravision International, a manufacturer and distributor of LED displays and LED lighting, teams up with New York City-based Superior Digital Displays to provide a network of Ultravision LED Spectacular digital billboards owned by Superior.

Signs 6, 7 and 8, as they are known, stand at 729 7th Ave., at the southeast corner of 7th Avenue and 49th Street. They are at the gateway to Times Square from the north.

The three signs offer full-motion, synchronized, high-resolution digital video displays totaling 3,800 square feet.

Each of the LED billboards allows for full motion video with limited ad placement restrictions 24 hours per day. They are positioned to avoid “visual noise” associated with the billboards in Times Square.

According to Ultravision, its screens are one-third less weight than that of its competitors’ digital displays, use a third less electricity, and don’t require air-conditioning units that can cause burnouts and power outages. They are also weather and dust resistant.

Ultravision also says that at 125 feet high, they can be seen from Central Park, which is several blocks away.
