Jetstream: Wrapped to wow

Just Fab Graphics’ eye-catching Jetstream boat wrap.

Just Fab Graphics in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, created these vibrant graphics for client Eric Morrow’s Jetstream boat. They designed the wrap for the roughly 12 boat in-house. The wrap was printed
on their Roland DG TrueVIS VG3-540 54 wide-format eco-solvent printer/cutter, using its ink gamut to add splashes of color — creating a blend of speed and style.

We chatted with Lindsay Theisen, owner/senior graphic designer at Just Fab Graphics, about the project.

A: A new customer stopped into the shop because he saw our page on Instagram. His name is Eric, and he lives about an hour away. He was actually a state police officer with two dogs in his car.

Q: Walk us through the design process.

A: The customer had an idea for wild and crazy graphics. He told us we could basically do whatever we wanted, and [he] showed [us] a few ideas of what he liked.

Q: What about the printing and/or laminating process?

A: We used an Avery Dennison 1105 film with 1360 overlaminate.

Q: Walk us through the installation process.

A: The installation process was pretty simple. Each side panel was printed with the back wrap and wrapped around the back corners to the swim platform.

Q: What was the timetable, and what did it take to complete the wrap?

A: After a handful of design proofs, I’d say probably 5-10 hours to nail down the design. It was a hard decision at first, as [the client] initially chose a blue and yellow design. But then his friends had an impact on him, and he switched it to the full color [design].

Q: What were some of the major challenges?

A: I wouldn’t say there were any major challenges. One minor challenge was making sure [the] color came out correctly on the printer when everything [was] printed. For example, [making sure that] the pink came out pink and not red.

Q: Were there any aspects of the project you found particularly unique?

A: It was such a wild and crazy design that it made it very forgiving. You didn’t have to make sure everything lined up and matched exactly because it was so sporadic.

Q: Is there anything else you’d like our readers to know about this project?

A: We love doing wild and crazy colors. Custom work like this really sets us apart sometimes. Especially when we do a lot of fleet and commercial graphics. It’s fun to be able to go all out at times and have a lot of fun with it!
