It’s a question I often get: Is the mirror color in the mirror backing, or is it in the glass itself?
The answer is that the color is actually in the glass. For example, a black mirror uses either a black or very dark gray glass (like Vitro/PPG’s Graylite II), and a blue mirror uses a blue glass (like Vitro/PPG’s Azuria) and so on.
Commonly available mirror colors are clear (silver), black, blue, bronze, gray, green, and copper. The mirror backing on the rear side of a mirror is a layer of silver, then a layer of copper, and a final layer of vinyl paint to seal and protect it.
