Portland, Oregon-based digital display manufacturer Planar, a Leyard company, announces the completion of its acquisition of Corvallis, Oregon-based NaturalPoint, a maker of optical motion capture hardware and software, for $125 million in an all-cash transaction.

Planar says the two companies have complementary technologies that will allow it to accelerate the development of products serving the growth and strategic opportunities in virtual reality (VR) CAVEs, drone and robot tracking, movement sciences, sports performance, computer visualization character animation, and more.

NaturalPoint will remain a separate business with its existing executive team, customers and market initiatives.

NaturalPoint, makers of OptiTrack, TrackIR and SmartNav branded products, employs a team of 60 in North America and has a state-of-the-art 25,000-square-foot facility for its optical tracking business located just two hours south of Planar’s headquarters. The companies say that close physical proximity will be a benefit to it and its customers.
