MetroWrapz Wins 2018 ‘King of the Wrap World’ Crown

MetroWrapz beat out competition from Great Britian, South Korea and Australia to claim the crown.

MetroWrapz of Hollywood, Florida, received the “King of the Wrap World” crown for its “Mission Flyer 2.0” vehicle wrap.

The annual Avery Dennison contest featured entries from around the world and the MetroWrapz entry beat out the other three Continent winners: Funkeefish of Tendring, Great Britain; WrapStyle Korea of Gimpo-si, Kyeonggi-do, Korea; and Fingerprint Signs of Launceston, Australia.

The ultimate prize package for MetroWrapz includes a personalized Wrap Like a King trophy, $1,000 in gift vouchers, a Race Ramp product, a variety of promotional and marketing tools and exposure via the Avery Dennison website and social media. The entire “King of the Wrap World” extended prize package is valued at almost $5,000.

MetroWrapz used Avery Dennison Supreme Wrapping Film, MPI 1105 with digital overlaminates and Conform Chrome to create a warplane-inspired vehicle wrap.

Writes Bruno Dede, president of MetroWrapz, on the company’s Facebook page: “This is Technical Sgt. Romeo Peart‘s 2015 Dodge Challenger Hellcat, wrapped as a World War II-era P51 Mustang. He is an active duty U.S. Air Force flight engineer on the mighty Combat Talon II (C-130) aircraft.

“He first came to us to wrap his Hellcat inspired by a Tuskegee Airmen Red Tail P-51, to pay homage to the airmen who paved the way for him. The challenge presented to us was to re-design, as well as eliminate all of the original white color of the car. We created the artwork from historic photos to keep the design authentic to the original aircraft. While staying close to the original concept, we shifted the color scheme and added in some personal effects.

“The attention to details on this project has raised the bar of any wrapped vehicle we have ever created. Panel by panel, we methodically added shadows to every bullet hole to showcase depth in the layers of paint. All interior elements were changed to coincide with the design and color of the aircraft. No details were left uncovered resulting in wrapped doors, door jambs, under the hood, inside the engine compartment, inside of and under the trunk lid. The air tanks inside the trunk were wrapped as well. The details are so realistic that it is a challenge to decipher what is real to what is wrapped. The Avery Conform Chrome with matte lamination solidified the look of this one-of-a-kind wrap. What we have now is a perfect rendition of Sergeant Peart’s very own P51 Mustang … Mission accomplished.”

A panel of industry experts judged each submission to choose first Regional Wrap Kings, then the Continent Wrap Kings and the final “King of the Wrap World.” The 2018 Challenge judges include Justin Pate, Myles Kovacs, Jun Kinoshita, Mark Richardson, Alain Carcat, Molly Waters, Peter Wright and Marco Kimme.

“Weathered effects were a big trend among entries in 2018, with three of the four continent winners using printing and lamination to create rusted, worn looks,” says Pate, co-owner of The Wrap Institute. “MetroWrapz came through with the most impressive project that took Conform Chrome and Supreme Wrapping Film to unconventional places.”

The judges evaluated submissions based on visual transformation (difference between the before and after pictures submitted); quality and skill level of installation; overall public look and appeal; and uniqueness of the design.

“MetroWrapz earned the global wrap king title against an extremely competitive field, and we’re proud to have the shop represent the incredible installers that use our films,” says Jeff Losch, marketing director with Avery Dennison Graphics Solutions. “With new products just released at SEMA, including Supreme Protection Film and new colors of Supreme Wrapping Film, there is even more people can accomplish with our products.”

The award was handed out at the SEMA show in Las Vegas.
