WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.-Apparel distributor and marketer Hanesbrands announces plans to acquire Pacific Brands Limited, a major underwear, and intimate apparel distributor in Australia.

“Pacific Brands is a natural addition to the HanesBrands portfolio with its strong market-leading brands that will be complemented by our global supply chain,” says Richard A. Noll, CEO at Hanes.

In a press release issued by the company, Hanes states that it intends to retain senior management at Pacific Brands to continue running the business after the acquisition is finalized.

Hanes will focus on two of three business units from Pacific brands-Underwear which covers babywear, children’s underwear, outwear, and socks, and Sheridan which features luxury and loungewear including linens, towels, and bedding accessories. The company will divest the third Pacific Brands business unit, Tontine & Dunlop. This unit focuses pillows and flooring, which Hanes does not consider part of Pacific Brands’ core.

This announcement marks the sixth major acquisition by the company in the past three years and the first acquisition in the Australia and New Zealand territory in 2016. Earlier this month Hanes announced plans to acquire Champion Europe, adding wholesale markets in Italy, Greece, Spain, and Scandinavia to the company’s roster.
