MONTREAL-Gildan Activewear joins Ethisphere’s Business Ethics Leadership Alliance (BELA), a global community of companies who recognizes the value of ethical leadership. The alliance allows companies to work together to focus on ethics and integrity.

Joining BELA’s collaborative community will allow Gildan to “learn from others across a broad spectrum of industries,” says Lindsay Matthews, vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary, Gildan Activewear.

She adds that proper compliance practices lead to better business. Gildan is excited to partner with BELA to further raise ethical standards, both regionally and globally. As members, the company will have access to “information related to best practices of major corporations.” Gildan says its commitment to ethical business practices runs through every aspect of the company, which also “contributes to a strong corporate culture based on trust and transparency, ” according to Matthews.

BELA’s executive vice president and executive director Erica Salmon-Byrne, says, “BELA brings together a community of hundreds of companies that are committed to building an environment in which best practices are shared. Research-including Ethisphere’s-shows how organizations with a strong ethical culture regularly outperform their peers.”

Ethisphere Institute founded the Business Ethics Leadership Alliance after the financial crisis of 2008. Founding members include General Electric, PepsiCo., Walmart, Jones Lang La Salle, and other multinational organizations.
