MONTREAL-Gildan announces it has been included in the leadership band of the CDP’s 2019 scores for transparency and action on climate change. The company has voluntarily reported its performance results since 2008 to the foundation.

CDP recognizes companies in the leadership band for criteria such as climate data, thorough awareness of climate risks, demonstration of strong governance, management of climate risks, and display of market-leading practices. Gildan says it received an A- rating which it claims is “well above the apparel design sector average,” and North American and Global averages of C.

“Our business model of owning and operating the facilities that produce the vast majority of our products allows us to have direct control over the manufacturing process and ensure that responsible and sustainable practices are deployed throughout the complete value chain,” says Claudia Sandoval, vice president, corporate citizenship at Gildan. “We look forward to continuing the journey towards conservation of the environment and remain fully committed in driving environmental performance improvement as one of our main goals throughout 2020 and beyond.”
The company continues to publish and report on its climate-focused goals, including a 2019 report that detailed a concerted push for sustainable practices.
