Featured Project: The Master’s Touch
Frank Smith has been making hand-crafted signage for almost four decades.
This project was sent into SDG from Frank Smith of Frank Smith Signs in Albany, New York. In the business since 1980, the craftsman created this two-faced, hand-carved cedar sign using Behr exterior black satin enamel (“lifetime warranty”) house paint, light blue 1 Shot enamel and two books of Giusto Manetti palladium leaf.
“The primary creative tools were my ancient chisels and my Loew-Cornell 8mm skew chisel,” Smith says. “My trusty Dremel 300 quickened parts of the smaller lettering.”
It was installed between existing redwood posts that are still sturdy after 25 years holding the previous sign.
