This wrap was inspired by the "rust wrap" craze that's popular in some circles.

Millville, New Jersey-based Designer Wraps, a full-service sign, graphics and wraps shop, brings us this featured project, in which they wrap a GTM, a custom kit car designed by Factory Five Racing.

“This was a design collaboration with our good friend Scott at Skepple Design,” Designer Wraps’ Sean Tomlin told Sign & Digital Graphics last year. “We enlisted Scott, based on his success with the ‘Rust Wrap’ craze that was happening globally, to come up with a ‘true-looking’ copper with some patina to bring my vision to life. Produced in-house, this color was printed on one of our Mutoh printers directly onto Avery Dennison Conform Chrome, then laminated with Avery DOL 1460 high-gloss film to give it that realistic ‘copper’ look.

“We then added the real rivets (heads) to the car (which we painted a bronze color first) … one-by-one by hand. This thing came out absolutely amazing (It’s a white car underneath).

“We also used Avery Brushed Black Metallic to break-up the copper and make it look more aggressive. The customer saw the car for the first time (I only told him the idea we had, he had not seen the car at all until he saw it in person when completed) … he was speechless … and that makes it all worth it.”
