Featured Project: Not-So-Heavy Metal

Two brothers who separated after high school took very different paths before founding ShieldCo together in 2013.

The story of Frederick, Maryland’s ShieldCo is the story of two brothers, Neil and Luke Markey, who founded their custom metal signage shop in December of 2013. You can read the story of the paths the two of them each followed to get where they are today on the company’s website. But really, where they have ended up goes back to where they started, growing up in a house with two artistic parents, including a father who used metal as his medium.

As the brothers report on their website, they are now up to 12 employees and have sold signs in 46 of the 50 states.

Aside from custom metal signage, the pair also do 3D laser-cut metal fabricating, and that’s what we feature here. These “cityscapes,” as they call them, are the only click-and-buy type of signage the shop offers, according to Erin Hajjar with ShieldCo, although these, too, can be customized for Anytown, USA.
