Featured Project: Mural, Mural on the Wall

The 21' mural is made up of 11 17' panels that are all 50" wide.

This featured project was done in Louisville, Kentucky, home of the KFC YUM! Center, a multi-use sports and entertainment venue that seats more than 23,000.

Representatives from the center contacted S.K. Sign & Banner of Clarksville, Indiana, with a daunting assignment: to print and install a 21′ wall graphic inside the facility in just three days.

Mactac, a Stow, Ohio-based manufacturer of pressure sensitive films, is a regular vendor for films that S.K. Sign uses. The company uses Mactac’s IMAGin ROODLE (RO628) printable media all the time, and knew it would be a good fit for this graphic, which would be a print of Louisville’s historic Fall City Brewery building and a graphic designed to look like an old brick wall.

S.K. Sign consulted with its partner, Nashville, Tennessee’s Athens Paper, which gave the go-ahead on using ROODLE, a 6.0-mil matte white, semi-rigid calendared PVC film.

S.K. Sign & Banner began printing on a Wednesday, using an HP Latex 560 printer. The graphic included 11 17′ panels, each 50″ wide. Panels were printed to the edge of the material with a 1-inch overlap. On Thursday, they were installed onto the smooth interior wall, with the lowest panels being applied 4-feet above the ground. By Friday, the project was complete.

“With ROODLE, our installers didn’t even have to tape up the product-it was super easy to install. As long as you rip the file correctly, the rest is easy,” says Stefan Kopf of S.K. Sign & Banner. “We love Mactac products and so does Athens Paper-Mactac is our go-to. Once you find a product that works, why change? ROODLE was made for this type of application.”
