Featured Project: Big Apple Window Graphics

Signs New York is celebrating 30 years in business this year.

This featured project comes to us from the New York City borough of Brooklyn, where Signs New York has been operating since 1989. The company does all types of signage and event graphics, as well as vehicle wraps, and aside from the New York/New Jersey area will ship and install signage pretty much anywhere in North America. In this case, the job was local.

Signs NY was contracted by health and fitness club BRICK to decorate the front of its first Brooklyn training facility on Water Street in DUMBO-the acronym for the trendy neighborhood known as “down under the Manhattan Bridge overpass.” Known for its cobblestone streets and converted Brooklyn warehouse buildings, DUMBO offers historic and unique architecture but instead of factories and import/export houses you’ll find independent boutiques, high-end restaurants and trendy cafes. And workout spots such as BRICK.

Being a landmarked district, the city has strict limitations on the types of commercial signage allowed there. So Signs NY decided to take advantage of BRICK’s large front window and glass entrance by using vinyl window decals.

For the graphics Signs NY used 3M Scotchcal, a high-gloss, calendered vinyl film. According to the company, the film is more economical that cast film but still very weather resistant and can last up to the three years-even in the harsh winter weather conditions of the Brooklyn waterfront. It’s also easy to remove and replace without damaging the glass, according to Signs NY.

The Signs NY installation team-all of whom are 3M-certified-completed the install in just  four hours. The result is eye-catching graphics that show off the company’s distinctive brand as well as blend tastefully into the historic setting of Water Street.
