KALAMAZOO, Mich.-Edwards Garment continues its annual involvement with Kalamazoo-area schools through the First Day Shoe Fund. The Kalamazoo First Day Shoe Fund provides school-age children in free and reduced-price lunch programs with new shoes for the start of the school season.

Edwards’ involvement with the project dates back to 2011 when the company began contributing through financial gift-giving.

“Edwards Garment has been a critical partner of First Day Shoe Fund for many years, and their ongoing support has helped grow our capacity to help children in Kalamazoo,” states John Curran, executive director of the First Day Shoe Fund.

Curran points out that since first partnering with Edwards, the foundation donated 2,049 pairs of shoes in 2011, and saw an increase to 4,411 pairs last year. In addition to its annual financial contribution to the program, Edwards also marks a departure from previous years with 15 pairs of athletic shoes as part of its 2017 donation. Recipients include Kalamazoo Public Schools, Comstock Public Schools, and Paramount Charter Academy.

The long-running Michigan company’s participation marks a constant trend of community involvement. In late 2016, the company commenced its fifth year of donating career apparel to the Salvation Army with a shipment of formal apparel including dress shirts, blouses, and blazer jackets to a regional distribution center.

“Our goal is to assist local agencies in our community that impact the lives of children and family members,” says Gary Schultz, president and CEO of Edwards. “We applaud and support First Day Shoe Fund and Edwards associates for their pledge to this vital community program. We believe that all children should start school with proper shoes to enjoy academic success.”
