DIC Corp. to Acquire BASF’s Global Pigments Business
The acquisition should have ripple effects into many industries that DIC serves, including the businesses that are customers of Sun Chemical.
Japan’s DIC Corp., a chemical company of which Parsippany, New Jersey-based printing ink giant Sun Chemical is a part, announces that it is buying the global pigments business of Germany’s BASF, one of the largest chemical companies in the world. The division being purchased is BASF Colors & Effects (BCE).
DIC says the acquisition will broaden its portfolio as a global manufacturer of pigments, including those for inks, electronic displays, cosmetics, coatings, plastics and specialty applications, by creating a world-class pigments supplier that offers customers an even wider range of versatile solutions.
According to DIC, customers will benefit as the acquisition offers a unique opportunity to combine complementary know-how and best practices to develop ground-breaking innovative solutions for the marketplace.
“As a company that strives for Color & Comfort, DIC believes that it can contribute to its customers by providing colors to society and life,” the company says in its announcement. “With more than 30 pigment production facilities worldwide between DIC and BCE, the company’s pigment portfolio will be able to offer broader product categories related to effect pigments, inorganic pigments, organic pigments, specialty dyes, and pigment preparations.”
