The owners of DAYTONA International Speedway recently completed a three-year, $400 million redevelopment project of the venerable venue, which first opened in 1959. As part of the renovation, Aurora, Illinois-based Peerless-AV, which makes products serving the indoor and outdoor electric sign industries, was chosen to install some 800 outdoor displays.
One of the main goals of the renovation, the owners of the speedway say, was to give fans the ultimate experience everywhere they went, and upgrading the facility’s technology played a major role in those plans. Ownership placed an emphasis on installing outdoor, weatherproof displays, so fans would never have to miss a minute of the action no matter where they were in the stadium.
The stadium owners decided on two Peerless-AV Xtreme Outdoor Daylight Readable Display models: the 47″ and the 42″.
The displays were chosen, the race track’s owners say, because they are fully operational in the extreme temperatures and weather conditions experienced in Daytona Beach, which is near the Atlantic Ocean; they needed to be easy to install and maintenance-free; they had to be viewable in direct sunlight, even to fans wearing sunglasses; and they needed to look good, its new owners says.
The DAYTONA International Speedway reached out to several vendors and put them up head-to-head in various tests, and the Peerless-AV displays won the competition.
Once Peerless-AV was awarded the contract for the displays, those displays became one of the last things to be installed. A company called the Integration Factory of Rockledge, Florida, managed the installation, which was done in time.
Displays were mounted throughout the entire speedway, including in the concessions, stadium concourses, garage/pit areas, bathrooms, and more-wherever a display would fit, one was installed. A number of custom mounts needed to be created for the job, the company says.
