Brookings, South Dakota-based LED display manufacturer Daktronics announces the installation of what it says is the largest LED video display in Europe: a 1,128-square-meter (approximately 3,700 square feet) curved LED display above the entrance to London Stadium at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in London.

The marquee measures approximately 46′ high x 266′ wide and is slightly tilted toward the ground to deliver messages to the crowds as well as provide advertising space to sponsors. The company says its 15HD pixel layout is capable of brightness levels that cut through direct sunlight while providing imagery with great contrast and color depth.

“Hosting Europe’s largest LED video display is a proud point of difference and we expect that the sight of the screen will become an iconic element of everyone’s visit to London Stadium and Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park,” says London Stadium chief executive Linda Lennon. “The LED video display will serve to inform and entertain our guests while delivering considerable value to our commercial partners, event owners and community groups.

“Our challenge now is to use the screen to its full capability by displaying great content that further enhances the experience of sports fans, concert goers and corporate guests.”

Daktronics’ Venus Pro control suite provides the venue with flexibility in scheduling and changing messages and content.

With the tilted nature of the display, content created in a traditional manner would look stretched out and curved so the company says it designed the display to appear horizontal along the top and bottom and vertical at each end.  Daktronics says it worked to create templates and content creation guidelines to help the venue and its creative team produce great looking content that accounts for the natural curve of the display.

Daktronics’ long-time partner, EDS, was responsible for the fabrication and installation of the strengthening and the secondary steel as well as the display itself.
