AURORA, Ill.-BERNINA of America celebrates its 125th anniversary. The company traces its roots back to Switzerland where the family-owned business began in the late 19th century.

The company’s website offers a detailed timeline on the evolution of the business, beginning from its European roots, through 20th-century developments to its current line of production-based machines. As part of the “Golden” anniversary, BERNINA also offers a series of tips for decorating apparel with golden embroidery. The company invites decorators to share stories of their first BERNINA experiences on the organization’s WeAllSew blog. Participants who submit stories enter for a chance to win a series of prizes.

“The My First BERNINA contest embodies the spirit of BERNINA enthusiasts that all share a special moment when BERNINA first became part of their lives and how their machines have made an impact on their creativity,” says Paul Ashworth, president of BERNINA of America.  “We look forward to providing more updates on when our various 125th Golden Anniversary offerings will be available.”
