Augusta Sportswear names Scott Winkler as its newest brand ambassador.

AUGUSTA, Ga.-Augusta Sportswear names Scott Winkler as its newest brand ambassador. Winkler is a U.S. Shot Put Paralympian and Army veteran.
The company explains Winkler began his athletic journey as a sprinter and long jumper in high school. Following high school, Winkler joined the U.S. Army and served in Iraq. An accident in 2003 left him paralyzed below the chest.
“When I was injured and got back, it wasn’t easy for me,” states Winkler in a video interview. “I didn’t know what I was going to be. I was a soldier. When that was taken from me, I had to figure out, who am I?”
Winkler’s life took another turn when he was discovered at a sports camp in Colorado Springs, Colorado in 2006. A coach took note of his impressive shot put distance ability, and Winkler was offered the opportunity to compete as a professional Paralympian. Since setting a record at the 2007 Para Pan American Games, Winkler has continued to compete at events in cities like Beijing and London.
“Being an athlete and representing your country is a great honor,” Winkler adds. “I look forward to seeing you guys in 2020.”
